I studied Biotechnology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and performed my Master’s thesis there. It was focused on assessing the tolerance of microbial mats communities to heavy metal contamination, using mainly microscopy. Then, I jumped to the world of bioinformatics and I am currently doing my PhD on the ecology of marine heterotrophic flagellates, the unpigmented smallest eukaryotes in planktonic systems. Particularly, I use omics datasets from global and local surveys coupled with microscopy approaches to better understand the role of these organisms in their ecosystems.
