I am a biologist specialized in Ecology and Biodiversity Management, with a background in spatial ecology and stable isotope ecology. I have worked on movement ecology, habitat modelling and trophic ecology, combining fieldwork, tracking data and analytical approaches. Although my previous work was centred on large‑scale ecological patterns, I’m really enjoying this shift towards microbial ecology and learning a lot from this perspective.
I am currently working as a technician at the Blanes Bay Microbial Observatory (BBMO), where I study the grazing impact of marine nanoflagellates on microbial communities. My work involves processing monthly BBMO water samples, applying cell fixatives and filtration techniques, and using fluorescent markers such as DAPI and CARD‑FISH. I routinely use epifluorescence microscopy to quantify nanoflagellate abundances and estimate their ingestion rates. I also explore new approaches to fluorescently label prey to improve the detection of grazing interactions. This work is part of the BYGENEX project, coordinated by Ramon Massana.
